Tesla Signs $2.1 Billion Battery Supply Deal with Samsung SDI for Energy Storage Systems
Tesla has reportedly secured a $2.1 billion battery supply agreement with South Korea's Samsung SDI, marking their first large-scale collaboration after years of negotiations. The three-year deal focuses on lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cells for Tesla's Energy Storage System (ESS) products like Megapack and Powerwall, rather than electric vehicle batteries.
The MOVE follows Tesla's recent LFP battery pact with LG Energy Solution and reflects a strategic shift away from Chinese suppliers CATL and BYD amid rising trade tariffs. Samsung SDI responded cautiously to inquiries, stating details remain unconfirmed ahead of an official announcement.
